Gamsol is odorless, colorless mineral spirits. You use regular color pencils (I'm using Crayola which are NOT supposed to be the best choice, but they're working for me right now), and you use a stomp/stump, and you break down the color pencil line and spread the color. It's a soft look with no pencil lines. Here's a link to show you how to do it: http://www.heartprints.net/gallery/magic/ (As of right now, this site seems to be down -- try it again later.)
I bought my gamsol at Peacy Keen stamps (and the stomps), and you can get it at Inky Antics online too. Someone said that it's at Michael's in the art section under the Mona Lisa name brand. I haven't seen it there.
Gamsol is toxic, so don't use it near your little one, and don't let him touch it. (It's easy to forget because of it being colorless and odorless.) You just need to wash your hands well when you're done. I have two girls, and it's not a huge concern, but you do need to be aware of that.
